Making green activity sustainable for small tourism companies

Because a member of Greening Tourism and I were discussing this interesting issue through the e-mail, we thought it might be interesting to all of you to join us in this discussion. The title of this forum explains how difficult it may be to small companies to work in eco-tourism or to have green services sustainable.

But let's start with the first question:

1.Iis it possible for small co.s to sustain the initial cost of going eco and promoting it?

my answer was:

If these co.s target the right customer (an eco-friendly one), then yes. But if the customer does not give value to this strategy, the overcost will be a lost of competitive advantage.

In in this scenario what would be the definiton of right customer?.Because At the end of the day one value its product for the services provided and Eco products are generally highly priced due to its initial operating costs thus they can only be afforded by the niche premium segment .How the common traveller be a part of the greening drive because without them sustainable tourism cant even sustain itself.

I just can think about this discussion with another question: ¿do you have some examples, some successfull bussiness cases where have been possible have this kind of clients ?
